Fumiko Oya Brumfield (Mickey), of Tomball, TX peacefully passed away in the early morning of May 16, 2023 at the home of her son, Steve and wife Terri where she had resided for the past year. Mickey was born on July 4, 1932 in Nagoya, Japan to her father, Ismu Oya and her mother, Tosiko Oya both who preceded her in death.
Mickey is survived by her four children, Angela Brumfield Haynes of Minden, LA, Laura Brumfield Barnes and husband, Jack Barnes of Shreveport, LA, James Dudley Brumfield II and wife Kimberly Brumfield of Baton Rouge, LA, and Steven Wayne Brumfield and wife Terri Brumfield of Tomball, TX. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James Paul Brumfield (JP) of 68 years.
During this 68 years, Mickey and JP were fortunate to have eleven grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. They were preceded in death by their loving granddaughter Melissa Brumfield.
When asked what her passion was, I could only think of food. Anyone who knew Mickey, knew she loved going out to eat or ordering in. If a new restaurant opened, she had to check it out. She could be their best customer or their worst critic. You never had to wonder what she thought about a dish or yourself for that matter. We all knew Mickey to say whatever she was thinking without a filter.
Mickey volunteered/worked approximately 35 years with St. Lukes hospital in Houston, TX. She was a lifetime member of the St. Lukes Auxiliary. While there she developed lasting friendships with Pam Lemp, Nancy and Barbara. Even after leaving St. Lukes, these three ladies always found time around the holidays to brighten Mickey’s day. Pam continued to visit Mickey on a weekly/biweekly basis.
The Brumfield family would like to thank Vista’s Hospice for their continued service and the care provided during Mickey’s final days.
Mickey is gone but never forgotten. There will be a forever void in our hearts. Rest in Peace!
Instead of flowers, we are requesting donations to Dementia Society of America or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. These two are near and dear to all the family as Mickey's husband, JP suffered with dementia and her son Steve has suffered with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Thank you in advance for any and all donations.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.AmericanHeritageFuneralHome.com for the Brumfield family.
