USAF Lt. Col., Retired
Fredrick “Jack” Gibson, longtime resident and family doctor of Houston, died on July 26, 2011 in College Station ,Texas. He had made College Station,Texas his home since 2005.
Born on June 13, 1918, in Carterville, Missouri, he was the son of Fredrick and Melissa Meldona Hocutt. He joined the Army Air Corp in 1941 and became a P-51 fighter pilot, serving in WWII in the Pacific Theater. He met his love and life partner, Lenore “Annie” Fuller and married her on June 27,1944. He retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel, to pursue his dream of going to Medical School. He graduated from UTMB in ’58 and started a General Practice in Houston, with Annie as his Office Manager/Nurse. He practiced in Houston until 1997 delivering babies, making house calls, performing surgeries and serving patients.
Jack is survived by his children and their spouses ; Melissa and Bill Westbo, Fred and Beth Carty Gibson, and Tommy and Valeria Goodwin. He is preceded in death by his parents, one child Michael, brothers Harry, Hi, Pete ,and one sister Pauline Gibson Akers and his beloved Annie.
“Grandpa” was the proud Grandfather of Teri & Brian Wall, Tess & Justin Durkee, Jack Gibson, Larah & Rudy Medina, William & Tiffany Westbo, Tommy Goodwin Jr., Sam & Cassie Gibson, John & Courtney Goodwin, Mark & Brittney Gibson and David & Kelsie Gibson. He was an extra proud Great-Grandfather of Kaelyn, Braden, Devan, Cameron, Valerie, Devon, Peyton, Andre, Sloan, Danial, Connor and soon to be Jack.
Jack celebrated 62 years of marriage with Annie, enjoying horse races, playing golf, bridge and taking a turn on the dance floor. He loved being Gib, Gibby, Uncle Gib, Jack ,Uncle Jack and Doc. He was a Officer and a Gentleman and was always surrounded by family and friends.
We will be Celebrating this wonderful life Sunday July 31, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Earthman’s Hunters Creek Funeral Home on Katy Freeway. Interment will be August 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the V.A. Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veteran’s Memorial Drive. In Lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
