Freda Joyce Scott was born to the union of James and Ruby Powell on December 19, 1944. Freda grew up in a large family, she was the third child of fifteen sisters and brothers. Her parents, one sister Minnie Foster and one brother David Powell, preceded her in death. Evangelist Freda Joyce Scott crossed over peacefully on December 6, 2013 surrounded by her loving and supportive family. Freda was baptized at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Dudley at the historical Bethel Baptist Church in Fourth Ward. She later attended Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. In 1989, Evangelist Freda Scott was licensed as a Minister by Apostle Blanch Barley. She was ordained in 2003 by Pastor Jerome Nelson. She later joined Soul Prospering Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Joan Lewis, where she served faithfully until her passing. Evangelist Freda Scott was a wonderful example of faith, hope and charity. She served in her community as a leader and speaker. Freda attended Gregory Elementary School and Harper Junior High in Houston, Texas. She later attended Booker T. Washington High School and Houston Community College, securing her certification as an Activity and Mental Health Director. At an early age Freda developed an interest in music. Nurturing her talents, she shared her gift playing the piano and singing for various churches. She continued this interest as a young adult. Freda was a dedicated and loving wife to Charles Erwin Scott for twenty-four years, he preceded her in death. He was the love of her life. She was a loving mother of five children, an involved grandmother and great grandmother. Evangelist Freda Joyce Scott leaves to mourn her Home Going, her children Claudette Kennedy (Kenneth), Reginald Smithers, Sr., Trineice Hearn, Tommie Lewis and Telly Lewis. She leaves her twenty-four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and twelve siblings. She also leaves a very good childhood friend of fifty plus years, Dorothy Peoples.
