On March 28, 2017, Fred Bill Lacy, slipped away from his earthly life to spend eternity with his Heavenly Father. Bill was born in Houston to Fred and Ruby Lacy on February 19, 1925. He served in combat in the European Theater as part of the 42nd Rainbow Division in World War II and was decorated with a Purple Heart. Bill attended The University of Texas at Austin where he received a BS in Geology. He went on to earn his Masters in Geology from The University of Houston. He married the love of his life, Joy Ferguson Lacy, on December 23, 1956. They resided in Houston and were blessed with two children, Michael Dean Lacy and Linda Michelle Lacy. Bill served in many different capacities in lay ministries at Park Place Baptist Church and Northwest Memorial Baptist Church. His passion was oil exploration where he achieved great success in the gulf coast region over the course of sixty years. It was never work for him, it was something he truly loved.
Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Darlene Collins, his father, Fred Lacy, his mother, Ruby Lacy and his wife, Joy Lacy. He is survived by his son, Michael Lacy and his daughter in law, Linda Lacy, his daughter Michelle Lacy, and Grandchildren Leslie Joy Lacy and Zachary Michael Lacy.
When presented with life's challenges, one of Bill's pat responses was, "Well I'm not sleeping in the snow and nobody's shooting at me." He was known for his humor and loved by all, especially his children. He was a rock for his family and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Bill Lacy's life will be on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 @ 10:30 in the morning, at Forest Park Lawndale Chapel of Angels with a graveside military tribute following. In lieu of flowers, the Lacy family requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
