Frank Steve Sliva was born on October 23, 1930 in Frydek, TX to Louis Dominic Sliva and Frances Kutra Sliva. He died on April 15, 2021 at his home in Houston surrounded by loved ones after a lengthy battle with cancer.
When Frank was 8 years old, he had spinal meningitis that left him both paralyzed and deaf. After many prayers by the family to the Infant of Prague, his paralysis cleared but he remained deaf. In spite of his handicap, he graduated from Sealy High School at the age of 16 at the top of his class. Frank moved to Houston to attend Massey Business College where he studied bookkeeping. However, due to his deafness, he was unable to find a job in his field of study. Not one to let his limitations stand in his way, he eventually found a job at Morris Sewall Grocery Wholesaler where he worked as a warehouseman some 50-60 hours a week. In spite of this, Frank still found time to take lip reading classes and dance lessons. He was quite the dancer! Frank later found employment at Rainbo Bakery where he worked for 31 years until he was forced to retire due to a back injury.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Susana B. Sliva, and his grandson Stephen Sliva. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Helen Sliva, his children Frank (Diana)Sliva of Cypress, Texas, Carmen (Elias) Zuniga of Pearland Texas, and Susana Sliva (Laura) of Manvel, Texas. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Jerome, Frank (Jamila), Jessica (Robert), Joshua (Tammy), and seven great grandchildren, Evan, Braeden, Landen, Cadence, Anasten, Milo, and Eloise. Frank is also survived by his stepdaughters, Sylvia Perez, Roseanne Bush, Rachel Perez, and Sonia (Manuel) Saldivar all of Houston, Texas, his step-grandchildren, Ricky(Tess), Brittany, Emily, Madison, Matthew, and step great grandchildren, Charlie & Molly. He is also survived by his two sisters Henrietta Fee and Louise Widacki as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
