Frank Mazzola, 88, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas, on Sunday, March 30, 2014, with his family at his side. He was born the fifth child of Samuel and Flavia Mazzola on October 21, 1925, in the wine country of Cucamonga, California.
Frank graduated from Bell High School in Bell, California in 1943. The very next day, he left for basic training with the US Navy and spent 3 years as a Cadet in the Naval Aircorp.
As a graduate of the University of Southern California, Frank had a long and exciting career as a mechanical engineer and project manager. He worked on several high profile projects including Philadelphia’s newly automated mail-flow system, two Anheuser-Busch Breweries in California, the Nevada Test Site, the major renovation of the John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California and several classified government projects around the world. Prior to his retirement in 1989, Frank and Marty, his wife of 60 years, lived in both Southern and Northern California, Pennsylvania, Hawaii, Virginia, Texas and Saudi Arabia. Frank and Marty retired to Las Vegas where they resided for 12 years before moving to Houston, Texas in 2001.
Frank was preceded in death by his three brothers, Ambrose, Joseph and Nicolaus, as well as his parents. He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Martha, or “Marty”, of Houston, TX; daughter, Michelle Mazzola Geller of Carlsbad, CA; son, Frank G. Mazzola and wife Karen of Houston, TX; daughter, Donna Mazzola Sarvadi and husband Jerry of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; three beautiful granddaughters, Cori Geller, Megan Mazzola and Carly Sarvadi; sister, Florence Mazzola Gipple and husband Harvey of Anaheim, CA; sister in law, Emma Mazzola of Calistoga, CA and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. We will all miss him more than words can say.
