Frank J. Hoffmann Jr., 83, of Houston, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday May 22nd, 2013 in Denver, Colorado surrounded by his beloved wife of 61 years Billie L. Hoffmann and loving family.
He was born to the late Ellen Fern (Bockel) and Frank J. Hoffmann Sr. on August 2, 1929 in Beaumont, Texas. Frank lived in Houston most of his life attending St. Mary’s Grammar School and St. Thomas High School where he was President of The Class of 1947. He attended St. Thomas University and graduated from the University of Houston in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. He served our country in the Navy. Frank married his loving, devoted wife Billie Laura Berger on May 31, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Houston. He was employed by Tidewater Oil which became Skelly, Getty, Texaco and then Chevron. He worked his way up through the ranks becoming the Manager of Engineering at Getty Oil and retired from Chevron.
Throughout his life he was a devout Catholic and was an active parishioner at St. John Vianney Catholic Church for the past 40 years. Frank was a caring, devoted husband that loved to travel the world and spend time with Billie. It was rare to ever see them apart. He was a dedicated father, involved in Boy Scouts and he loved to spend time with his family camping, fishing, hunting, sightseeing, or just plain sharing his wisdom and giving good advice. He was always active and enjoyed his hobbies of woodworking, fixing things, traveling and listening to music.
Frank is survived by his wife Billie Laura Hoffmann and their children Dr. Frank J. Hoffmann III & wife Patricia Hoffmann of Lake Jackson, William E. Hoffmann & wife Carol Hoffmann of Sugarland, Christopher J. Hoffmann & wife Lela Hoffmann of Alvin, Thomas P. Hoffmann & wife Laurie Hoffmann of Cherry Hills Village, CO, and daughter Therese H. Hurford & husband Dr. Michael Hurford of Louisville KY. In addition fourteen grandchildren: Dr. Michael Hoffmann, David Hoffmann, Mark Hoffmann, Natalie Zilch & husband Josh Zilch, Katherine Torres & husband Earnest Torres, Joshua Hoffmann & wife Erica Hoffmann, Sarah Kensel & husband Brette Kensel, Mary Hoffmann, Laura Hoffmann, Matthew Hoffmann, John Hoffmann, Tommy Hoffmann, Elizabeth Hoffmann, Nolan Hurford, and 3 great grandchildren Conner Zilch, Emma Hoffmann, and Noah Torres.
Visitation for Mr. Hoffmann will be on Tuesday, May 28th, 2013, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 29th at 10:30 A.M. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail. Interment will follow in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
