A loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend has departed from this earth for another land, to a city of foundations whose builder and maker is our God.
Frank Author Dowell was born in Avinger, TX on April 24, 1942 to Virginia (White) and Frankie Dowell. He graduated from Traylor High School in Hughes Springs, TX in 1960 and shortly thereafter enlisted into the United States Air Force where he served four years, ten months, and eight days to receive an honorable discharge. He later relocated to Houston, Texas to start his new life journey. Frank attended Hartford Steam Boiler Technical School where he became an Inspector Engineer for over 35 years. He retired and enjoyed his life talking with friends, going to church, and watching his favorite episodes of “In the Heat of the Night” and “Perry Mason”.
He was a lifelong member of the St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church where he was a devoted and dedicated Deacon for many years. Outside of going to work and to church, his greatest joy was being a father and grandfather to his children and his grandchildren.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frankie and Virginia Dowell; three brothers – A. D. Allen; Robert Lee Johnson and James Walter Dowell; one sister – Nadine Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memories to his devoted daughters Crystal Dowell Jones (Charles) of Spring, TX, Cassaundra Johnson (Gary France) of Chino Hills, CA and Pamela Roberts of Houston, TX; former wife Dezzie Lee Dowell (Mickie); three grandchildren Caylie Jones, Brianna Watson and Christopher Roberts; two sisters – Tommie Hatten (Jerry) of Avinger, TX and Sherry Gadson of Houston, TX. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, friends and his children’s friends.
A visitation for Frank will be held Saturday, January 15, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church, 119 Fidelity Street, Houston, TX 77029. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, January 15, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 119 Fidelity Street, Houston, TX 77029. A committal service will occur Tuesday, January 18, 2022 from 9:45 AM to 10:00 AM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
