Francis Patrick Carr, Jr.

Francis Patrick (Frank) Carr, Jr., 94 years young, died peacefully surrounded by his family on October 20, 2017 at Memorial Hermann Hospital Memorial City. Frank was born in New Haven, Connecticut on May 1, 1923 to Francis Patrick Carr and Rita Flanagan Carr. He grew up as the oldest of five brothers; two of his brothers survive him – Eddie and Billy. Predeceased by John and Robert.

He served in the U.S. Navy for five years as a radioman during WWII in both the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters. He proudly served on the USS Tolovana and the USS Omaha.

Frank Carr came home to New Haven, Connecticut. He returned to his pre-war job at the Knights of Columbus. This is where he met and fell in love with Patricia Ann Noder. She worked in the insurance department and was the Drum Major for the Yankee Division American Legion Drum Corps.

They married on July 19, 1947 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Haven, Connecticut. They celebrated their 70th anniversary at a sit-down dinner with family and friends this past July.

When they returned from their honeymoon, the young couple moved to Washington, D.C. where Pat (Frank) transferred to FBI Headquarters in the identification department and worked as a radio operator also. During this time he earned his Bachelor’s of Accounting degree from Benjamin Franklin University during the day and working the nightshift. He became a Special Agent in 1955. He worked in Alaska, New Jersey, Ohio and in 1958 he was transferred to the Houston Office.

During his time with the FBI, he was involved is many historic and notorious cases. He arrested the two Anglin brothers who reportedly escaped from Alcatraz. He was lead investigator in the Birmingham church bombings during the 1960’s. He was a nationally recognized fingerprint expert solving multiple bank robberies just from the prints. Over his service, he received multiple letters of commendation from J. Edgar Hoover and other directors that followed.

Frank was a life-time member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, the Knights of Columbus and the National Association of Chiefs of Police. He was also inducted into the Law Enforcement Softball Hall of Fame.

Frank and Patricia’s family include their three daughters: Patty; Sharon and her husband Fred, with their children Jenny, Fred III and wife Erin, with their daughters Alivia and Ashlyn, and Patrick and his wife Brianne and their daughter Lorelei; and Susan with son Jason and wife Jennifer and their daughters Diana and Sofia.

Frank and Pat have been amazing grandparents to their four grandchildren and wonderful great grandparents to their five great grandkids. Their life is a testimony that hard work, honesty and love are the means to a successful marriage.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were his four grandchildren: Jenny, Fred and Patrick Richardson and Jason DePalma.

The family requests that there be no flowers as he will be buried at the Houston National Cemetery. Visitation with the family was from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston. Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25th at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, where Deacon Dan O'Dowd officiated and members of the U.S. Navy Honor Guard, rendered Military Honors. Following the services, all were invited to a reception at Waltrip Funeral Directors.
