Frances Joan Smith

Frances Joan Smith, of Houston TX, died March 31, 2018 from a fall and brain injury in Stanwood, WA. Joan was born March 19, 1931 in Parris Island, SC (Marine Base) to John Bennett Smith and Beatrice Gertrude Smith. She was raised on a farm in Woodstock, GA before the family moved to Houston in 1943. She graduated from Milby High School in 1949, and Lillie Jolly School of Nursing of Memorial Hospital downtown in 1952, becoming an RN. After a few years of nursing, Joan went to TSCW in Denton and received her BS in Nursing in 1956. She continued her career with the VA and with HL&P until retirement. Joan loved the Lord, her family, her many pets and she loved being a nurse. She was an avid reader, traveler and she loved to sing. She was a long time member of Park Place Baptist Church. Joan is survived by Margaret Nobles, her brother Lee Smith and wife Jeannine, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is April 8, 5-7 pm, and the funeral service April 9 at 10 am at Crespo Funeral Home, 4136 Broadway, 77087. Burial following at Forest Park Lawndale.
