Frances Bishop Porter Frances Bishop Porter departed this life into the arms of Jesus on May 13, 2011. Born in Calvert Texas, September 4, 1917, she lived 93 years as a faithful servant of the Lord, beloved daughter of Imogene (d.) and Hines Bishop (d.), much loved sister and aunt, devoted wife, and loving mother to 5 children.
Frances Porter became known affectionately as "Mema" to many children; those of her own and many others. She has 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 3 great-greats. She was joyfully anticipating the July arrival of her 27th great-grandchild.
She was the wind beneath the wings to the love of her life and husband of 62 years, retired HPD Homicide Lieutenant Breckenridge Porter Sr. who departed this life October 23, 1999.
Among the many personal investments she made in this life, her legacy is of one who put God and family first, who loved all and was loved by all. The Porter family home was typically filled with the noise of kids, grandkids, and friends.
Survived by 2 sons and 3 daughters; Breck Porter, Jr and wife Nikki of Jamaica Beach TX, Judy Porter Wehr and husband Bill Wehr, Sr. of Houston, TX, Gayle Porter Maxey and husband Les Maxey of Cypress TX, Robbie Gina Porter Garrett of Houston, and Randall Porter of Katy, TX.
She will be a dearly missed sister and friend to her surviving siblings; Nellie Reagan of Houston, Bessie Perry of Bryan, Texas, and brother Marion Bishop of Baytown, Texas. She is now reunited with her sister Lucille Singleton, and brothers Buck Bishop and Robbie Bishop
Member of Oak Forest Baptist Church since 1953, she worked faithfully in her church as a teacher and volunteer in many capacities. For many years she answered the call to work in fund raising drives for Cancer Research, Heart Disease and Muscular Dystrophy. She was a member of the Houston Police Homicide Officers Wives Association and served as one of the first officers.
Visitation is Tuesday, May 17, 2011 from 10am to 8pm. The family will be present from 5pm to 8pm.
Services are Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 11:00am. Both services will be held at Pat H. Foley & Company. Graveside services will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble, Texas.
