Frances Marie Laskowski, 78, of Houston, Texas, passed away on January 12, 2023.
She was born in Houston, Texas on February 10, 1944 to parents, John and Josephine Tomczak and was the youngest daughter of nine children. She attended Christ the King Catholic School and Incarnate Word Academy before marrying Gilbert in 1961. They were married for 36 years before his passing in 1998.
She worked as a factory worker sewing bags and sacks at Bemis Bag Company before she and Gilbert opened their first business in the 1970s, and later, G & L Fittings.in the late 1980s. She stopped day-to-day functions in the business to become a full-time mother and Boosha at the birth of her first grandson.
Frances was an incredibly kind and compassionate person with a strong zest for life. She loved playing cards, specifically Pitch, every weekend with she and Gilbert’s couple friends. After Gilbert’s passing, she played many card games with family and friends, and specifically Poker every weekend with her two sisters. She and Gilbert enjoyed gambling in Las Vegas and Louisiana and, after his passing, she continued the enjoyment of gambling with her family at the casinos and during numerous bus trips to Coushatta. She enjoyed cruising and had completed 16 cruises in her lifetime. She found her favorite slot machine, Ultimate Fire Link, on a cruise and she finally hit the mega jackpot recently at Delta Downs on this slot machine. Her latest passion was playing Bingo at Triple Crown Bingo, as well as playing video Poker in their game room. When she was not playing Bingo, she had learned to use her iPad to play many slot games. However, she would never miss watching General Hospital of which she was an avid fan for 50+ years. She was extremely competitive while playing any kind of games even with her own children and grandchildren.
Frances was a loving wife, mother of four children, and grandmother to six grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Glenda Stachowiak and husband, Scott; Charlene Martinez and husband, Fred; Gary Laskowski and wife, Denese; and Cindy Laskowski. She is also survived by her grandchildren Joshua, Andrew and Abigail (Abby) Martinez; Zachary and Alexa (Allie) Stachowiak; and Claire Laskowski.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lillian Tomczak, Florence Jaworski, Albin Tomczak, Johnny Tomczak and James Tomczak. She is survived by sister, Gertrude Martin; and brothers, Marion (Butch) Tomczak and wife, Sandra; and Leonard Tomczak and wife, Sharon, numerous nieces and nephews; and other family and friends. Serving as Pallbearers are her nephews Michael, Ryan, Joey, and Alan Tomczak; Brad, Travis and Derrick Laskowski, and Chad Mikeska.
Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday, January 23, 2023 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, Texas 77060 with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 11507 Huffmeister Rd., Houston, Texas 77065. Rite of Committal will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery. A celebration of life reception will follow at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church.
