Floyd Theodore Skeen, of Houston, Texas, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at the age of 90. He was born on July 31, 1933 in Oakhurst, Texas to John Edgar Skeen Sr. and Lela Mitty Cline.
In addition to sharing life with his mom and dad, Floyd grew up with 3 sisters and 2 brothers and was the youngest of the 5 children. One of his fondest accomplishments when growing up, was working to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout in his community. Floyd always enjoyed offering to help others with their project or need. One of his standard responses to anyone he came into contact with was to ask “Can I help you with that”?
Floyd met his childhood sweetheart, Sherley J. Witt, at Manchester Baptist Church in Houston and the two were married at Manchester Baptist on June 12, 1953, and together they raised 3 children. While attending Wharton Jr. College, Floyd played basketball where his team won the National Championship in 1952 for the first time. He graduated from the University of Houston with his Bachelor’s of Science in Education and went on to Texas A&M where he obtained his Masters. Floyd enjoyed teaching Math and Wood Shop for many years in Central Texas as well as Houston. He later started his own construction company that placed utilities and streets in new subdivisions. His company was instrumental in many of the subdivisions north of Houston between The Woodlands and the Conroe area. He enjoyed spending time with his church family and singing in the choir through the years. Most Sunday mornings started with gospel quartet LPs waking up the family as the children started morning routines to get ready for church. He loved spending time with all his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Floyd is preceded in death by his wife, Sherley, who passed late in 2023. Floyd is survived by his three children, Rick and Pattie Skeen, Deela Roe, and Steven and Cami Skeen; five grandchildren; Julie and Dave Heinlein, Michael and Katie Skeen, Shailey and John DeBroeck, Graham Skeen and Evan Skeen, ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
