Floyd Sanford Cowart, 92, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away on Saturday, the 9th of March 2024, in Houston, surrounded by his daughter, Anne-Marie Cowart Favoriti, and loving family. He was born on the 11th of May 1931, in Cumming, Georgia, Forsyth County, to Kaney Cowart and Beree (Terry).
Floyd, the eldest of nine siblings, began his journey on humble Georgia farmland before joining the US Army in 1953 during the Korean War. Serving in France from 1953-1955 in the 188th Transportation Corps, Floyd was honored with the National Defense Service Medal for his dedicated service and the Good Conduct Medal for his exemplary conduct, efficiency, and fidelity in active Federal military service. After his military tenure, he pursued trade school to become a skilled machinist.
For the majority of his career, Floyd dedicated himself to Texaco, retiring after 23 years of service at the Texaco Geophysical Laboratory in Bellaire. Intrigued by mechanics, he found joy in tinkering and was always ready to lend a helping hand, especially when it came to fixing cars and rental properties.
In 1964, Floyd married the love of his life, Heddy Andrada, in Ontario, Canada, and they shared 54 years of cherished moments together, leaving behind a legacy of memories for their daughter, Annie, and her family. Floyd and Heddy explored the world together, from cruising the Caribbean to venturing to Asian and European countries, as well as embarking on numerous fishing expeditions to Alaska and road trips to various US National Parks and points of interest.
Floyd possessed a warm and welcoming demeanor, and his love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for hunting, fishing, and sharing laughter with everyone he encountered. He cherished life's simple pleasures. He found joy in the activities and presence of his grandchildren, the warmth of a morning cup of coffee, a hearty breakfast with eggs and bacon, and the tranquil beauty of dusk as the sun dipped below the horizon.
Floyd's hands, weathered from years of hard work, spoke volumes about his dedication to caring for his family. He believed in the value of working hard, and his actions reflected his integrity. He showed genuine kindness, often helping others without expecting anything in return, finding fulfillment in making a positive difference. Every heartfelt "thank you" he received was a testament to the legacy he left behind. Whether known as Dad, Pops, Sant, Uncle Floyd, Big Daddy, or Grandpa, he was always ready to offer his assistance or a comforting hug. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Floyd's parents, Kaney and Beree Cowart, as well as his wife, Zenaida A. Cowart, and son, Floyd K. Cowart, Jr., have preceded him in death. May they find eternal peace in the presence of the Lord our God.
