Florine Lorine Bailey

Florine was born to Eugene Russell and Hilda Hitt, November 30, 1931, in New Gulf, TX. Her childhood years were spent between Texas and Louisiana. She married Eugene Vernon Bailey at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, they lived together in Houston, Texas and raised nine children.

Florine is survived by her children: Jackie Hilow, Peggy Wendelken, Tanna Malveaux, James Bailey, Mary Casper, Mark Bailey, Patricia Rodriguez, Paul Bailey, Kimberly Dudley. Her grandchildren: Jarred Hilow, Christopher Malveaux, Michelle Malveaux, Nicholas Malveaux, Autumn Skinner, Anthony Rodriguez, Robert Rodriguez, Christine Nath, Theresa Dinger, Matthew Rodriguez, Gabriela Rodriguez-Cooks, Joseph Rodriguez, Seth Dudley, Gabriela Dudley. She also leaves her great grandchildren to cherish her memory: Isabelle Grant, Jalen Clark, Ashley Casper, Alexis Danny Hallene, Ryley Malveaux, Mia Infante, Ella Brown, Gabriel Malveaux, Jenna Rodriguez, Elise Malveaux, Kira Rodriguez, Veronica Rodriguez, Levi Rodriguez, Scarlett Rodriguez, Cayden Rodriguez, Alita Dinger.

Florine was preceded in death by Eugene Russell, Hilda Hitt, James and Iva Scott, Maryanne Scott, Buford Scott, Basil Scott.

Florine worked as an at-home babysitter while raising her family. She also worked for the Houston Credit Union for a year and as a teacher for numerous daycares for over ten years.

She was a devout Catholic with a deep love for the Blessed Virgin Mary, centering her life around her faith and family. Florine and Eugene sent their children to St. Christopher’s Catholic School. Florine prayed the rosary with her family every night. Florine was a strong, independent woman and a breast cancer survivor. Florine loved all people and lived to take care of others. She would always drop everything to help others, she lived her life for her family. Florine was not only a caretaker for her children but her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and countless other families – often at no monetary cost, it was from her selfless nature and caring heart.

A public visitation will be held at St. Christopher Catholic Church on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 11AM – noon. The rosary will begin at noon with the mass beginning at 1PM. The burial will follow at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St. Houston, TX 77023. Father Gregory Cheo will officiate the ceremony. The family would like to thank Magnolia Crossing; staff and residence for caring for her and their companionship in her final years.
