Florence Elizabeth "Betty" Mitchell died peacefully on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at her Holly Hall home in Houston, Texas. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 8, 1919, to Robert and Mary Eula Brodt. After moving to Houston's East End in 1930, Betty attended school and church in Park Place and graduated from Milby High School. In 1939, she married Charles E. "Chick" Butcher who was engaged in the laundry and dry cleaning business until his death in 1978. Betty married Lon C. Mitchell, Sr. in 1988 and lived in the Cypress-Tomball area where Lon practiced as a CPA until his death in 2007. She has been a resident of Houston's Holly Hall for the last five years. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Robert Brodt, Gene Brodt, and Danny Brodt, her husbands Chick Butcher and Lon Mitchell, ex-daughter-in-law Gertrude Schaleben, and step-son Lon C. Mitchell, Jr. Betty lived a long full life and often remarked how richly God has blessed her. But more so, it was she who was God's blessing to others through her Christian example of devotion, caring, love, sacrifice, and tireless giving as a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor. She is survived by her sister Mary Jane Raymond, her four sons, Ed and wife Pauline Butcher, Tom Butcher, Ernie Butcher and Larry and wife Carla Butcher, her ex-daughters-in-law Janice Bunger, Maurine Butcher, Sheila Butcher and Margie Lowe, her step-daughter, Lynn Mitchell Foreman, her step-daughter-in-law, Martha Mitchell, and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and relatives of the Brodt, Butcher, and Mitchell families. She was so very dearly loved and will be so greatly missed by all who's lives she touched. Visitation will be held from Noon to 2PM Wednesday, May 1, 2013 immediately followed by the funeral service and burial at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Ave., Houston, Texas.
