Flora Lee Burton Moody

Mrs. Flora Burton Moody Alpha: March 14, 1932 Omega: February 21, 2012 Flora Lee Davis was born on March 14, 1932 in Dickinson, Texas to George and Annie Bell Hill Davis. She was the younger of their two daughters. As a young girl, she was surrounded by aunts,uncles and cousins thereby building strong family bonds. She accepted Christ at the age of twelve at New Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Bazerrone. Flora was baptized in the waters of the Dickinson Bayou. Flora was a proud graduate of Dunbar High School, class of 1950. After graduating from high school,she moved to the Houston Heights. While in Houston,she became a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Flora met and married the love of her life,Alfonzo. He called her his "Brown Eyed Girl". Flora and Alfonzo were united in marriage o March 22, 1951. To this union, seven children were born:Linda, Brenda, Alfonzo,Jr.,Calvin,Sherry,Lester and Joy. Following in the footsteps of her husband, Flora joined Second Baptist Church in Houston,Texas under the leadership of Rev. J.P.Phillips. While at Second Baptist, Flora served on various auxilliaries that included secretary of Mission II, Deaconess,Choir Member and a strong supporter of all youth activities. She touched the lives of many children in the Heights community. She taught her family and children to rely on God. Flora was committed to raising her children and helping to improve her community. She served on the PTA Boards of P.H.Holden Elementary, Helms Elementary(Treasurer) and Hamilton Middle School. At Waltrip High School, she was a member of the Waltrip Rams Booster Moms. Flora was also actively involved in the Houston Heights Progressive Civic Club. Flora was preceded in death by her mother;Annie Bell Porter,her father;George Davis;her sister,Frances Roberson;her father-in-law,J.B.Moody;her sister-in-law,Johnnie Mae Burden;her niece,Michelle Wardsworth;her nephew,Tristen Hopkins and her eldest son Alfonzo Burton Moody,Jr. She leaves to mourn;her devoted husband of sixty one years, Alfonzo Burton Moody;her children,Linda Burton Moody,Brenda Burton Moody Jones(Henry),Calvin Burton Moody, Sherry Burton Moody, Lester Burton Moody(Kim) and Joy Burton Moody;grandchildren,Ashlye'Jones Dudley(Jason),Allison D'nai Jones,Chelse' L'Nee' Jones and Armanda Taylor Marie Burton Moody.
