Federico Garcia was born in 1949, to his parents Fidel Garcia and Natividad Ramos in Weslaco, Texas and later moved to Houston, Texas to become his permanent home. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. and was stationed in California. He fought in the Vietnam War and spent the rest of his life serving God and family.
In 1969 after serving his country in the Vietnam war, he returned home to his family. During a visit to pay homage with his mother in Mexico, he met and fell for Teresa. They married in 1971 and moved to Houston, Texas. Soon after, he completed his GED and earned his Draftsman certification. He continued his career as a Civil Draftsman with Binkley & Barfield, Inc. for over 35 years. In 2019 Federico retired at the age of 70 and was surrounded by family & friends.
Many of his personal interests included but not limited to reading books, bird watching, hunting, and his general carpentry projects. Throughout his personal interests, he was able to still find time to volunteer and serve God’s Purpose alongside his wife. As longtime parishioners at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, they together served in the Sponsor Couple Program as mentors, Baptismal Preparations and continued teaching in the Faith Formation Programs, also known as CCE.
Federico served as a Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight and Trustee for serval terms with the Council #8404 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He received special recognitions for the Lone Star awarded by the Supreme Knight. While serving as Deputy Grand Knight, Federico along with his Fellow Knights established the continued traditions and today efforts we know such as the Annual Fish Fry, Annual Bar-B-Que Fundraiser, Annual St. Vincent de Paul Society Donations, the Knights of Columbus College Scholarship, and the CCE Parking Lot Watch.
Federico is survived by his wife of 50 years, Teresa Garcia, their three children & spouses, Elton (Son) & Melissa Garcia, Elsa (Daughter) & Jesse Rodriguez and Rebecca (Daughter) & Alfred Sosa and their grandchildren Sean Garcia, Zachary Garcia and Robert Rodriguez. Surviving siblings Horacio Hernandez & Yolanda Elizarraras. Federico was looked up to by many others as a father and grandfather figure.
Federico is preceded in death by his mother Natividad Ramos, sister Margarita Hernandez, brothers Jose Rincon, Juventino Garcia, Valentine Garcia and Nephews Ernest Hernandez and Oscar Garcia.
There will be a viewing held at The American Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 5pm to 7pm, Rosary to follow from 7pm to 8pm. The following day Friday, July 1, 2022, Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Houston, Texas at 11am and escorted to Forest Park Lawndale for burial services. A Celebration of Life will be held at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Hall following the burial services. The immediate Family of Federico Garcia welcomes any stories, photos, and memories that his family and friends would like to offer.
