Maida Fay Wilson Ward, age 95 passed peacefully on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at her home in Spring, Texas. She was born May 29, 1925 in Chidester, Arkansas to Lona Catherine Webb Wilson and Fairley Barrett Wilson. Fay and her twin sister, Ray, were the youngest of 11 children and in January of 1933 the Wilson family moved to Houston, Texas.
On November 17, 1943 at Spring Baptist Church, Fay married Willis Randal Ward of Houston and they began their life together on the Ward family homestead. They were blessed with 2 sons, Randal born in August 1945 and Allen born in August 1949. The family loved to fish at Matagorda where they had a cabin for many years. Fay was a very involved mother and active in PTA all through her son’s school years. Her faith in God is strong and she instilled it in her sons whom she loved dearly and counted as her two most wonderful blessings.
In December of 1967, Fay’s world would open to a new and wonderful change, a grandchild! Her name would forever change to Nanny with the birth of Randal’s son, Randal Barrett. In March of 1971, Allen’s daughter, Reginna Lynn, was born to be followed in August of 1971 with the birth of Randal’s daughter, Kerri Deanne. These 3 grandchildren were so loved by Nanny and her favorite topic of conversation was about them while reaching into her purse for a photo album. What a wonderful Nanny you are!
In 1971, Fay and Willis purchased the “Farm” near Crockett, Texas. Weekends and any spare time they had they would gather Randy, Kerri and Reginna and spend it there. The farm was and still is a great family getaway to play, work, fish and hunt. Fay enjoyed this time away with the people she loved all under one roof. Love begets love and Fay is loved and adored immensely. Fay loved to talk and never met a stranger for people were drawn to her because of her outgoing personality. She would tell you she has had a wonderful full life and her plate was always overflowing with love.
Fay is preceded in death by her husband, Willis Randal Ward. She is survived by her son Randal and wife Pat; her son Allen and wife Connie; Connie’s daughter Christina and her children, Shelby and Joseph. Three grandchildren, Randal Barrett Ward; Kerri Deanne Salinas and husband Jonathan; and Reginna Lynn Lindsay and husband Brian. Six great grandchildren; Kaylen and Layne Ward; Tristan and Braydan Salinas; Kendall Parrott; Jessica Parrott and Samuel Williamson. One Great Great Grandchild, Myah Mae Williamson. One sister, Babs Polk and a special love and partner of 34 years, Alton Hefner. Alton and Fay loved to travel and enjoyed their gatherings and dinners with their church and AARP friends.
