Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Steffek, her 12 brothers and sisters, and her husband of 54 years, Albert Skellie.
Evelyn grew up in a Czech family on a farm in Needville, Texas. She had a lifelong love for learning, was an excellent student, and was named Most Beautiful in her high school class. Evelyn moved to Houston where she attended business college and then went to work as a secretary for Schlumberger where she met Albert.
In addition to raising their children, Albert and Evelyn enjoyed a full social life, including time spent with extended family and with friends, such as their long-time supper and bridge club.
She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church for over 50 years. She had a variety of interests including gardening, reading, politics, and history; she particularly loved reading about or watching documentaries on World War II.
Evelyn was known by her family and friends for her wonderful sense of humor, for being a night owl, for the yummy cookies she baked, and for her love of coffee and of Christmas! She was a devoted wife, mother, child, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother. Everyone who was fortunate to have her in their lives will miss her greatly.
A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held in early 2023. If desired, donations in her honor can be made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
