Evelyn Kirby Hillegeist

Evelyn Kirby Hillegeist, of Houston, TX, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 16, 2023. Evelyn was the daughter of Lester & Eunice Kirby. She met Bobby L. Hillegeist at Baylor University, from where they each graduated in 1959. The couple married in January 1960 and raised 2 children, Nancy and Clark. Evelyn loved her family, Jesus, hummingbirds, winter pansies, several dogs named Daisy, one named Ginger, and a cat called Sammy; she loathed those squirrels who kept trying to steal the bird seed.

A devoted wife and mother, Evelyn always provided support and love for her family. As Bob travelled often for work, Evelyn was more than happy to be the central figure in her children's lives. She ensured that everyone who crossed her threshold was made to feel welcomed and loved. Friends of Nancy and Clark recall fondly heaping portions of nachos or chili cheese dogs served up in the Hillegeist kitchen. Peanut M&Ms would always be found in a glass jar on the counter. Evelyn loved her friends and family and filled her home with warmth and kindness.

Evelyn is survived by her loving children, Nancy Hillegeist, and Clark (wife, Shannon) Hillegeist and her granddaughter, Katharine Hillegeist. She was preceded in death by her parents: Lester Kirby, Eunice Jones and stepfather Kenneth Marcell, husband: Bob Hillegeist, sister: Betty Pecore, and brother: John Kirby.

Services will be held in the chapel at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St, at 11 AM, Friday January 27, 2023.
