Jean was born September 21, 1931 to Richard and Bertha Judy in Kilgore, Texas and lived her young life on Gladewater Street surrounded by her loving parents and siblings. Although Jean had older, half-siblings, it was her brother RC and younger sister Clay to whom she shared an indescribably close bond that last until her death.
Upon graduating from Kilgore High School, Jean attended Kilgore College and enjoyed her time there as a Rangerette. She later attended North Texas State University where she met the love of her life, Hubert James Stuart, an athlete and aspiring doctor. They were married in 1952. The couple moved to Galveston, where Jean worked as a secretary while “Jim” attended medical school where he earned his degree at UTMB.
The pair later moved to Dallas and welcomed their only daughter, Judy. While raising Judy, Jean also was active in area hospital women’s auxiliary groups. The Stuart family moved to Houston in 1971, where they lived and made their home until the time of her death. Jean attended Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, was active in the Assistance League of Houston and was a faithful daughter of God.
During her life Jean and her husband traveled the world and enjoyed gardening and being at their vacation home on Lake Palestine together. She was a devoted wife and mother, and fiercely loyal sister, sister-in-law and aunt. She loved being with her family, extended family and friends and they with her. Jean was beautiful, elegant and had a wonderful sense of humor. She lit up every room she entered and made every party she attended a little bit more fun. She would be the first to tell you that she had lived a wonderful life.
Jean is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jim Stuart and their daughter, Judy Stuart Taylor, both of Houston. She is also survived by her brother RC and his wife Dee of Longview, Texas and sister Clay Cleary of Frankston, Texas. Jean is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
Service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, December 30 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home at 13001 Katy Freeway in Houston.
