Eula Mae Dixon Williams was born on November 12, 1920 in Houston, Texas to Pierce Dixon and Aretha Hinton Dixon. She was the baby sister to her only sibling and sister, Ocie; however, she grew up with many cousins, including Matilda Travis, who was more like a sister to her. Eula Mae was a life-long resident of the Heights community in Houston, Texas. She attended Booker T. Washington High School, Franklin Beauty School, and received training in Geriatric Care.
Eula Mae confessed a belief in Christ at an early age and was a part of Second Baptist Church in the Heights her entire life. As a faithful member, she served in the choir, Mission, and Sunday School. She remained active in attendance until her health prevented her from doing so.
Eula Mae was married to Bennie Williams. While she had no biological children, she helped her sister, Ocie, raise her seven children. Upon Ocie’s death in 1970, Eula’s official role as aunt became that of "mother" and "grandmother" to Ocie’s children and grandchildren.
Eula Mae lived to love and loved to serve. She worked as a dietician at Heights Hospital, retiring after 40 years of dedicated service. Additionally, she was a cosmetologist, working in her own hair salon for several decades. Her love for community was evidenced through her involvement and membership with organizations such as Heights Progressive Civic Club, VOTERS, Sheltering Arms, and the Order of Eastern Star - Maple Leaf Chapter # 59. She loved being around people and making sure they were comfortable and happy. It was hard to remain melancholy in her presence. She will be remembered for her compassion, humor, cooking expertise, and willingness to work and help.
On Friday, September 27, 2019 at age 98, God called Eula Mae home. She was preceded in death by her father, Pierce Dixon; mother, Aretha Dixon; sister, Ocie Finley; a special cousin, Matilda Travis; two nephews, Carl Thompson and Charles Melvin Thompson; a niece, Shirley Pradia; two great nephews, Marlon Pradia and Terran Thompson; two great nieces, Sonseria Love and Sharon Gaines; a goddaughter, Patricia "Pat" Phelps; and many others.
She leaves, to cherish her memory: her three nieces: Joyce Aubrey, Eula Jean Paley (Henry), and Pearl Love; nephew, Everett "Richard" Thompson (Wauline); a great niece, Tanya Thompson, whom she raised; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will dearly miss her presence.
