Erwin Edward Dostalik, 95, of Houston passed away July 14, 2024 in Kindred Hospital Houston Northwest. He was born December 1, 1928, in Praha, Texas to Louis J. and Della Novak Dostalik. Erwin grew up on big farms picking cotton at home and for other people. Erwin went to a Catholic school in Moulton, Texas, first-third grade and Oak Grove school fourth-eighth grade. When his family moved from the Oak Grove farm to the new farm in Yoakum, Texas in 1944 he rode a mule pulling a wagon with their belongings. In 1946 they moved to a house in the city of Yoakum. He worked at Guadalupe Creamery 1947-1951 driving a delivery truck. He was drafted and served 2 years in the U.S. Army 1951 and 1952 during the Korean War. He was stationed in Camp Atterbury and then 1 year in Germany. While in the Army he was stationed with Johnnie Machicek from Hallettsville, Texas. They were so happy to be from nearby towns where they both grew up in Texas. After the Army, Johnnie told him to come see his farm and meet his family. Erwin met Johnnie's sister, Agnes Frances Machicek and later married November 10, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hallettsville, Texas. After marriage he went to welding school in Yoakum. They lived on two farms and then a house in the city of Yoakum. Then moved in 1961 to their present house in Houston and lived there for 63 years. His brother in law, Willie Machicek, helped with the move and worked with Erwin at Hurricane Steel. He was a great help while he lived with Erwin and Agnes. He helped with kids and whatever was needed. Erwin worked at Hurricane Steel 1960-1975, Williams Machine Shop 1974-2006. He was a welder/machinist. He was a hard worker.
Erwin was the best loving caring Father, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Brother, Uncle. He loved his family and when we were all gathered together. He was always at home for his family. He could answer all of our questions. He loved that we were always close and nearby. He was very smart and knowledgeable, great wisdom. He enjoyed watching the Houston Astros, being outside with his garden, plants, trees. He could grow anything. Planted many potatoes and onions. He donated many plants to the church bazaar that he grew. He loved picking pecans. If something was broke he could fix it. He did carpentry, built many things, and welded . Everyday he watched Mass on EWTN and Wheel of Fortune, Price Is Right and Family Feud. He picked out an activity to keep him busy each day. He had a good memory, he could remember everything, enjoyed talking Czech and listening to polkas. He loved and always talked about the farm life. In 1973 and 1974 he was proud to drive his family of 10 in one car to Colorado. He traveled to many states with his family. After his wife passed away, he liked to cook and bake for his family. He made the best meat and potatoes, cinnamon rolls, peach cobbler.
Erwin is survived by his 8 children, Wayne, Gordon, Dinah Noska (Randy), Myron (Erika), Erwin Jr, Sharon Zissa (Richard), Deborah, Agnes Sofka (Johnny). 7 Grandchildren, Lacy, Emily Dostalik Jirkovsky (Matthew), Wesley, Danielle, Amy, Joseph, and Brianna Dostalik. 2 Step Grandchildren Estefania Resendiz and Brandon Resendiz. 5 Great Grandchildren Sophia, Denver, James, Mattias, Liana.
Siblings, Bertha Douglass of Colleyville, Tx, and Lorene Herman (Dan) of Cuero, TX and numerous nieces and nephews;Sister in law, Frances Berger (Louis) of Victoria, TX, 3 brothers in law, Joe Machicek (Mary Alice) of Shiner, TX, Anton Machicek (Leona) of Hallettsville, TX and Alois Machicek (Joyce) of Hallettsville, TX, sister in law Gladys Machicek if Shiner, Tx, sister in law Lorine Machicek of Schulenburg, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Joe and Agnes Machicek, wife Agnes Dostalik, daughters in law Cindy Dostalik and Jimmie Dostalik, sister Dorothy and husband Dan Hajek, sister Gladys Dostalik, brother in law George Douglass, Nephew Godchild Leonard Hajek.
Family would like to thank doctors, nurses and staff at Kindred Hospital Med Center, Kindred Hospital Houston Northwest, Memorial Hermann Hospital-Med Center, Memorial Hermann Hospital Greater Heights, Park Manor Skilled Nursing Facility-CyFair and especially Kyle Rogers at Park Manor.

A visitation for Erwin will be held Monday, July 22, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. A rosary will occur Monday, July 22, 2024 at 7:00 PM, 1200 W. 34th St., Houston, Texas 77018. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St Ambrose Church, 4213 Mangum Rd, Houston, TX 77092. A committal service will occur Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home Garden of Memories, 1101 Antoine Dr, Houston, TX 77055.
