Ernest “Ernie” M. Hall, 97, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2023, in his home in Houston, Texas. Ernie was born on September 22, 1925, in the small farming town of Bedias, Texas, the son of Ernest and Dora Hall. His family later moved to San Marcos, Texas, where he attended high school. After graduation, he joined the Navy, serving his country proudly in both WWII and the Korean War. While in the Navy, he was introduced to the field of engineering which sparked his lifelong interest. He pursued this interest by earning a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas in 1950, then accepting a position with Westinghouse in Pennsylvania. But his love of Texas soon brought him back, which led to a 50+ year career in Houston developing geophones for the oil and gas industry. He was awarded more than 19 patents, making him a leader in the development and manufacturing of geophones. His vision and entrepreneurial spirit led him to found and lead multiple companies.
Ernie was a bright light to all who knew him. In his business and personal life, he loved to encourage others and help them succeed. Many inside and outside the geophysical industry consider him a mentor who had a meaningful impact on their lives. He made an impression on everyone he met with his caring nature. He will be remembered for his infectious smile and unrivaled optimism.
Ernie met the love of his life, Elouise Oliver, in San Marcos while she was visiting college friends and he was visiting family. This led to a wonderful marriage and life together for 54 years. His top priority in life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren. He enthusiastically attended every event in which they were involved, whether it was sports, academics or celebrations.
Ernie is survived by his two daughters, Natalie Hall Reagan and husband Brian and Nancy Hall Ross and husband J.D., his two grandchildren, Hunter Reagan and wife Elise and Hannah Reagan, his two great-grandsons, Daniel and Luke Reagan, and numerous beloved extended family members.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Helen Kitsen, Nory Hoover, Jovy Pina and Neri Azurin for their heartfelt care of Ernie, enabling him to enjoy his later years.
Ernie will be greatly missed. He left a lasting legacy of selflessness and kindness. He will live on forever in the hearts of all who loved him.
