Ernest Powell Gaston Jr., aka “Ernie” age 93, of Houston, Texas passed away from this life on November 27, 2020. Ernie was born on May 14, 1927 to parents Ernest Powell Gaston Sr. and Eloise Gilliam. Except for a few years spent in South Carolina as a young child, he grew up in Houston in The Heights. In 1950, Ernie married his sweet Shirley. Together they adopted a son, John Lindsay.
Ernie graduated from Reagan high school. He enlisted in the US Navy and later the Merchant Marines during World War II. After the war he attended the University of Houston on the GI bill. During this time he got a job in the oil field working for Baker Oil Tools. He worked for Baker Oil Tools for 41 years in various capacities from roughneck to overseeing multi country regions outside of the United States. While working for Baker Oil Tools, he worked and lived in various places overseas. Those places included: Libya, Venezuela, Indonesia, Dubai and the rest of the United Arab Emirates, Spain, South Africa, Ecuador, Peru and Colombia.
Ernie enjoyed and had various hobbies throughout his life. He enjoyed NFL football and college football, but favored the Houston Astros most of all. He also played golf and fast pitch softball. He was a member of the S.P. Waltrip Lodge #1328 and Conroe Lodge #748.
Ernie was preceded in death by his beloved spouse Shirley and dogs Tigre and Monty. His siblings were Bill, Ethel, Mildred, and Kate.
He is survived by son John Lindsay Gaston, his spouse Tina Bohnstedt and his beloved dog Ruby.
