Eric Severin Anderson, 70, passed away gently in his sleep Sunday, the 9th of November 2014 in Houston, Texas. He was born the 16th of December 1943 in New York to Edward S. Anderson and Dorothy Ekblom Anderson.
Eric lived as a boy in many different states. He joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17, and learned to speak Romanian. He stood a Cold War listening post while in the Air Force.
Eric attended St. Mary’s University and Harvard Law School, where he graduated Cum Laude.
He joined the law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski and became partner and one of the nation’s premier municipal bond attorneys and health care facility finance attorneys. He helped to finance development in the Texas Medical Center, including buildings at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital.
Eric was very involved with the arts in Houston, including the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony, and on the Board of the Houston Society for the Performing Arts.
He loved theatre, especially Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hammerstein. Eric loved to travel. One of his favorite trips was travelling to Manhattan and staying at the Carlyle Hotel, sitting in the lounge listening to Bobby Short on piano.
Eric was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros. He loved reading the Houston Chronicle and the New York Times each day.
Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Dorothy Anderson. Eric is survived by sisters, Sonja Anderson, Susan Anderson Karakashian and husband, Charles Karakashian, Sally Anderson, Sara Jean Anderson, and Lisa Anderson; brother, Harry Anderson; nephews and nieces, Emily Angela Graves and her husband, Jeff Graves, Elizabeth Deardorff and her husband, Steve Deardorff, Susan Tara Garanzuay, Severin Garanzuay and his wife, Jennifer Garanzuay, Jacob Willis, Jason Willis, and Diana Miller. Eric also had many great nieces and nephews, and one great-great nephew.
Eric is also survived by his longtime love and companion Susan Thompson, and her son, David Harris.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at half past three o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 13th of December in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis and Sons, 1010 Bering Drive, Houston, Texas 77057. Friends are cordially invited to a reception immediately following the service in the grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons.
