Erasmo B. Perez Jr.

Erasmo B. Perez Jr., age 79, of Houston, Texas passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 in Pearland, Texas. Erasmo was born in Falfurrias, Texas on January 14, 1944 to his parents Erasmo Baldemar Perez Sr and Manuela Lopez.

After graduating from Falfurrias High School in 1962, Erasmo left to join the United States Air Force where he served 4 years at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois as an airplane mechanic. While in the Air Force, Erasmo married his longtime girlfriend from middle school Zulema Villarreal form Sarita, Texas and ultimately settled in Houston Texas where they had 4 children (Susana Perez, Erasmo Perez III, Erasmo Alberto Perez (Deceased), and Rosie Perez).

Prior to moving to Houston, Erasmo worked as a barber alongside his father for a few years in Falfurrias Texas while also taking night classes to become a machinist at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi Texas. Once he received his certification to be a machinist, he and his family moved to Houston where he worked for Texas Instruments for 23 years. While living in Houston, Erasmo and his wife Zulema, became members of the newly established St. Marks Catholic church and helped in its establishment by joining the Guadalupanos Society and the church’s Spanish choir.

Of the many things that Erasmo enjoyed doing, one of his favorite pastimes was listening to music and playing his guitar. Throughout his life, Erasmo played in multiple bands including a conjunto orchestra band, a Mariachi band, and the St. Marks Catholic Spanish choir where he played many years and helped develop and establish it as a permanent choir for the early morning Spanish mass.

Erasmo also enjoyed spending quality time with his many church friends who became part of his family when his wife passed away. After mass, he always enjoyed staying behind to catch up with his friends and maybe share a breakfast with them at the church hall. His greatest joy always came from being with his family and friends, telling jokes, and making people laugh and smile.

Erasmo is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Zulema Perez and is survived by his daughters; Susana Perez and her husband Jimmy Serna, Rosie Perez, son Erasmo B. Perez III and his wife Sara and his sister, Yolanda P. Vela. He is also survived by four grandchildren Nicole Macal, Alejandro Perez, Mia Perez, Andres Perez and by one great grandchild Richard Perez Jr.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with a rosary at 6:30pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 10:30 am at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 5430 W. Ridgecreek Dr. Houston Tx 77053. Interment will follow at Davis Greenlawn Cemetery in Rosenberg, Tx.
