Emma was an explorer; she traveled across the globe and reveled in new places and experiences. She was as at home in the shops of Barcelona as on the shores of Galveston, and charmed everyone she met with her wit and presence.
Emma was a talented musician; she excelled at the trombone and was a gifted singer. She was a leader among her peers in the Memorial High School Band, and as a member of the Spring Branch Girls’ Choir, participated in the Organization of American Kodaly Educators National Choir for four years.
Emma was a skilled photographer; she recorded moments of joy and beauty, and those images portray a life of fullness, adventure, and an indomitable spirit.
Emma was a scholar and a scientist; she graduated from Memorial High School as a National Merit Commended Scholar and a National Hispanic Scholar and was earning a degree in Chemistry and Biology as well as Latin American Studies at Rice University. She excelled at math and science and wanted to become a doctor, like her father.
Emma was a fierce advocate for equality and animal rights; she was a dedicated vegan with a passion for animals and a drive to improve the world around her.
Emma was an outstanding example of grace and charity; she amazed those who met her with her compassion, and her willingness to help others left an indelible impression on every person whose life she touched.
Emma was and is the light of our lives and a constant reminder of all the happiness and love that life has to offer. We ask that you remember Emma in acts of kindness and generosity; let her life inspire incredible gestures of love and irrepressible laughter.
Family and friends gathered for a visitation at Waltrip Funeral Directors on Wednesday, February 26, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
A celebration of Emma’s life was held at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2014, where a reception followed in the church narthex.
