It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Emilia Merkes on March 10, 2025 at the age of 75 in Sugar Land, Texas. Born on May 1, 1949, in Manila, Philippines, Emilia was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, significant other, and friend. She left this world unexpectedly, but her love, kindness, and unwavering strength will remain with us forever.
Emilia is survived by her daughter, Emee-Lee, her grandchildren, Phoenix, LynLee, and Cameron, and significant other, Bogdan. Emilia, also, leaves behind her sisters- Ester, Elena, and Mary and her brother- Benjie. She was also a dear aunt to all her nieces and nephews who will always remember her warmth and generosity. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the beautiful memories we shared with her.
She dedicated her life to her family, always putting others before herself with a warm heart and gentle hands. Her laughter could light up a room, and her wisdom guided us through life’s challenges.
She had a special way of making everyone feel loved and welcomed, whether through her comforting words, delicious home-cooked meals, or simple moments spent together. Emilia loved traveling with family, attending YMCA field trips, and church events, always cherishing the experiences and sense of community they brought. Emilia’s legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the lessons she taught, and the love and food she gave so freely.
Emilia, your love was a gift, and your memory will be a blessing to us always. We love you forever and always.
A celebration of Emilia’s life will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery on March 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., which will include the viewing and rosary prayer.
A mass service will take place on March 25th at 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church, followed by her final resting place at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery immediately after.
