Emilia (Emily) M. Hernandez entered the gates of heaven on Friday, April 19, 2019, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 93. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Emily was born on April 5, 1926, in Houston, Texas, to the parental union of Domingo Martinez and Maria Sandoval. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Rodriguez, grandson, John Henry Rodriguez, great grandson, Ramsey Saragosa, son-in-law, David Ramos, son, Roman Rodriguez, and brothers, Inocencio Alvarez and Joe Martinez. Emily is survived by her 4 children, Rudy and Helen Rodriguez of Humble, Texas; Rosie and Adam Martinez, of Spring, Texas; Evelyn Ramos, of Houston, Texas; and Anita and Refugio Diosdado, of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by her sister Guadalupe Valverde and leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, and countless other extended family.
A lifelong resident of Houston, Emily was an accomplished seamstress by trade. She sewed clothes, drapes, and commercial upholstery for decades. Emily also operated several small businesses throughout her life prior to retiring and becoming a full-time grandma.
Emily was a loving and caring grandmother, she always made the grandkids laugh and smile. She was famous for covering up for them every time they made mistakes or acted up. She loved cooking for the grandchildren and making their favorite foods.
Emily was extremely giving to those in need. She often gave away clothes, household items, and even her own personal vehicle. She was lead to the lord in the late 1970s, and attended Lakewood Church for the remainder of her life. She traveled extensively as a Missionary throughout Mexico. She loved singing praise and worship songs to a captive audience of grandchildren.
