She was born in Oklahoma and moved to Houston at the age of 6 months old. She graduated from Sam Houston High School and went to work for The Texas Company (Texaco) where she retired from after 45 years of service. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church for 60 years. She and her husband taught 2nd grade Sunday school and worked as counselors with the Methodist Youth Fellowship.
She is preceded in death by her husband W. J. McDermia, mother and father, May Dodds McCoy and George McCoy, along with 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
She is survived by her daughter Peggy McDermia Kimbrell, grandson Dylan W. Kimbrell, 2 great granddaughters, her loving caregivers Victoria Rogriguez and Vera Ramos, and many generations of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice. Elva’s favorite charities were for children and disabled veterans.
Visitation for Elva will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. and Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Pat H. Foley & Company funeral directors located at 1200 W. 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church located at 600 Pecore Street, Houston, TX 77009. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
