Elsie Lavern Smith

Elsie graduated from Livingston High School in Livingston, Texas and received her high school diploma.

She married Louis Smith in Livingston, Texas and married on June 28, 1955. Years later she moved to Montreal, Canada, from 1987 to 1996 and married her love of her life Archie Mendes.

Elsie worked in the banking medical industry. She was retired for 20 years.

She was a member of Generations Church in Spring, Texas for 25 years. Elsie was also a member of The Woodlands Sweethearts Senior Choir.

She had a love for gerontology and for those who lived in nursing homes but her biggest passion was her family, nature, animals, singing, and sewing/crochet. Elsie also went to multiple cruises across the Mediterranean and Caribbean Islands.

Elsie is preceded in death by her parents Chester and Delma; sister Lucille Vick; first husband Louis Smith; second husband Archie Mendes; grandson Michael Smith and son in law Timothy Stone.

She is survived by daughter Karen Stone; son Kerry Smith; granddaughter Alexis Smith; grandson Noah Stone; great granddaughter Michealla Smith; nephews Glenn, Dennis Vick; nieces Jannice Nappi, Julie Robinson.

Serving as pallbearers Noah Stone, Kerry Smith, Caleb Nappi, and Nicolas Smith.

A visitation for Elsie will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will occur Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at Brookside Memorial Park.
