Elsa Garza Smith, 57, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, April 26. She bravely battled Bile Duct Cancer since 2011. Elsa always had a smile on her face and brought light and laughter everywhere she went. Her love for life is one to be admired. Elsa grew up in the Southbelt area and graduated from Dobie High School in 1976. Her brother, Mark Garza, still resides in the Southbelt area with his family. Elsa loved being surrounded by her friends and family. The doors to her heart and house were always open. She was a friend to many and became a second mother to many more. Elsa’s pride and joy were her 3 children, Adrienne, Richard, and Daniel. Her most recent joy was her grandson Xavier. She loved him “to the moon and back”. She was a pillar of strength to her family. She lead by example and always gave you her true and honest opinion. Elsa will be greatly missed and a void will be left in our hearts. Elsa is preceded in death by her father, Santos Garza, and her husband, Richard Smith. She is survived by her mother, Olivia Garza. She is also survived by her brother, Mark Garza and his wife Rachel and their children, Javier Bernal and his wife Lila and their children. She also has countless uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends that held a very special place in her heart. May her memory stay strong and live through those that she touched so deeply.
Services will be held at Forest Park Lawndale. Visitation and Rosary will be Thursday, April 30, from 5-9pm. Mass and burial will be on Friday, May 1, at 2pm. Our guardian angel has now gone to heaven and is watching over us. We love you mom with all of our hearts!
