Mrs. Elnora Ollie Giles graced the world with her shining presence on June 9, 1935. She was born to the blessed union of Billie Louise and Henry Kemp in Houston, Texas. Elnora grew up in the heart of “sixth” ward, surrounded by family and close friends.
At an early age, Elnora confessed a belief in Christ and joined Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church. She took piano and voice lessons, and utilized all that she learned playing and singing for the church choir. It was here, at age 8 years old, where she met the love of her life, Alfred Giles. They were later married on December 12, 1953 and spent 57 beautiful, loving years together before the Lord called him home.
Elnora enjoyed reading and was educated by the Houston Independent School District. She began at Harper Elementary and finished at Jack Yates High School. She later earned a nursing certification working as an LVN and she spent her life caring for others.
Elnora had strong faith in God, and an abundance of love that she instilled in her family throughout her life. She took pride in taking care of her family and home. Her house was welcoming and consistently richly decorated. You had to be careful before sitting because you might fall on the floor if you didn’t notice that everything in the room had been rearranged.
She showed her faith in God and her talent as she demonstrated her love for God towards her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, relatives, friends and neighbors. She cared for the family and anyone else that needed her special nurturing and love.
Elnora Giles peacefully departed on November 12, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother (Leona Gunter Kelly), her husband (Alfred Giles), her son (Harrison “Rodney” Giles), son-in-law (Reginald Clark), and her grandchildren (Leona Clark and Kwaun Harvey).
Left to celebrate her life and cherish her memories are her children Deborah Clark, Marlynn Stovall (Isaac), and Constance Giles, her children in-love Delrick Wright and Shaniece Dixon, sister Dorothy Hill, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
