Elma Stafford was born to Elmer and Bertha Parmer on November 23, 1930, in Calumet, Oklahoma. Elma was the only girl with seven brothers she adored, and they adored her as well. She will be buried beside her husband in the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive Houston, TX 77038.
Elma's family moved to Houston when she was about twelve years old just as World War II started. Her father went to work at the Shipyard on the East Side of Houston. Elma received most of her education at the Galena Park School District. After she finished high school, her family moved to North Houston.
Elma found her first full-time job at downtown Houston in a new Woolworth Dime Store. It was not long after that she met her future husband, Loyd Stafford. Loyd had just moved to Houston after being discharged from the Navy. About three months later, October 2,1950, they were married. They raised three children, Danny, the oldest; daughter, Sherry; and Thomas, the youngest.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Joyce Stafford; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Bruce Reynolds; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Mina Stafford, six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law, Earl and wife Netta Parmer, sisters-in-law, Sandy Parmer, Medge Parmer, and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Donald, Bert, Myrle, Kenneth, Joe, and Albert, husband, L.B. Stafford, sisters-in-law, Juanita, Polly, Jackie, and Johnnie Parmer.
A committal service for Elma will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038, followed by a memorial service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at South Main Baptist Church, 4300 East Sam Houston Pkwy S, Pasadena, TX 77505.
