Celia Elizabeth (Beth) Cook, age 84, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2020. She was born September 18, 1935 in Houston, TX to Ernest (Brown) and Gladys Yeary. Beth grew up in Houston and as a child she adopted stray cats to be her playmates and enjoyed dressing them in doll clothes. She helped raise her sister, Mary Sue, who was born 12 years after Beth. Beth graduated from Rice University in 1957, and married Matthew William (Bill) Cook in 1962. She taught elementary and junior high school for 7 years until she started raising her family of three children.
Beth was a devoted wife and mother who was actively involved in her children’s sports, scouting and band activities. She learned to snow ski and enjoyed the mountains and ski trips with her family and friends in her husband’s dental society. Beth and Bill took many cruise vacations in their later years, and spent countless weekends with family and friends enjoying their beach house in Rockport, Tx.
Beth is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bill Cook, her two sons Scott Cook and Raymond Cook, her daughter Celia Cook, and six grandchildren, Brennan Cook, Erin Reis, Meagan Reis, Paul Michalsky, Kristin Michalsky, and Courtney Young. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Sue Lockler.
A private graveside service will be held for immediate family on Wednesday, April 15th at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX. A memorial service to celebrate Elizabeth’s life is planned to be held when conditions allow for large gatherings.
