Elias Ramirez, 82, of Houston, Texas entered into rest on November 28, 2014. He was born September 26, 1932 in Sugarland, Texas. He graduated from Milby Sr. High School, attended U of H two years majoring in Business Administration with a minor in accounting. During his high school years Elias was a member of the El Tropical big band where he was the lead horn. He served in Okinawa during the Korean War as a Range Platoon Sgt. In an Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battery in the U.S. Army. In 1966 Elias became a Mason and in 1999 he was Coroneted with the 33rd Degree Inspector General Honorary.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Luz & Manuela Ramirez, siblings; Martina Velasco, Juanita Colunga, Frances Arcizo, Eumelia Vargas and Manuel Perez, daughters Linda & Lydia Ramirez, and granddaughter Andrea Ramirez. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Alice Ramirez, daughters; Rebecca Crawford, Liz La Grappe and Linda Casas, granddaughters; Erin and Jamie Crawford, and Haley Herrera (Joaquin), great grandsons; Joaquin Elias and Adrian Herrera, sister Andrea Gonzales and brother Isaias "Shots" Ramirez as well as numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Elias spent a lifetime in the insurance business. He was first licensed in 1951 as an agent for Southern Life & Health Ins. Co. until he was drafted in 1952. Discharged in 1954 he again was licensed in January of 1955, with Union National Life Ins. Co. where he was employed for 27 yrs. rising thru the ranks to Vice-President. In 1982 he decided to join Farmers Ins. Grp. as a Property & Casualty Agent, retiring at yr.-end 2006.
Realizing that he had quite a bit of business not with Farmers, he opened an Insurance office as an Independent Agent with his wife Alice. Elias was very proud of his involvement with the church and Presbytery serving as translator for the Presbytery of New Covenant.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 5-9 PM in the Main Chapel of Forest Park Lawndale. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 10 AM at San Pablo Trinity Presbyterian Church located at 7000 Lawndale in Houston. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Shriner’s Children Hospital, the Lorenzo de Zavala Lodge 1397 or San Pablo Trinity Presbyterian Church in Elias’ name.
