Eleanore was born August 11th, 1935 to Walter Eli Green & Ruth Theresa Hughes Green in Hagerman, New Mexico. She passed away Tuesday, February 14th, 2023 in her home surrounded by family in Pearland, Texas where she resided for 17 years.
Eleanore lived on the family farm until she was five, then her family moved to El Paso, Texas where she grew up and eventually met her husband. Eleanore and Buddy married December 20th, 1954 and moved to Houston, Texas where they began having children in 1955. While raising her five children, she became a Boy Scout den mother for her boys and was involved in Blue Birds and Girl Scouts for her daughter. She sang in the church choir and was apart of a group called Sweet Adelines that traveled around the country singing for several years. Eleanore helped Buddy do invoicing and billing for his business and enjoyed working as a chiropractors assistant for many years.
Eleanore loved to cook for her family and friends of her children, square dance, sew matching outfits for square dancing, sewing and crocheting for family, and being independent with her own tools working on projects around the house. She loved sharing memories of her listening to her mom play piano while she sang along and growing up on a farm churning butter and making buttermilk. She enjoyed bowling with her husband on a league as well as for fun with her family, roller skating with her children and grandchildren, watching baseball (mainly the Astros) with her children, doing word puzzles, picture puzzles, crosswords, watching Wheel of Fortune, and anything that would help keep her mind sharp. She loved to read, including proofreading her children and grandchildren’s homework, and she spoke her mind boldly.
Eleanore fiercely loved her family and was a woman of faith who trusted Jesus and depended on his strength and the Holy Spirit to guide her. She helped start a new church in Pearland, Texas in 2005 where she started a prayer chain group, calling church members to check on them, gather prayer requests, and send to other members so they could pray for church members, friends and families. She continued to share her faith and pray, talking to Jesus until her last day here on earth.
She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Green, her father Walter Green, her husband Alfred Lee “Buddy” Thornton, her brother David Weldon Green, her son Walter Lee Thornton, and her great-grandson Kael Austin Hartman.
She is survived by her brother Charles Green and wife Nancy, sons; Geary Michael Thornton, William Alfred Thornton, Levi Dean Thornton and wife Jennifer, daughter Gwyn Thornton Necessary Sikes & Michael, daughter-in-law Debrah A Thornton, 13 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, nephew, nieces, and many cousins.
