Eleanor "Beta" Lopez of Houston, Texas was called to heaven on August 24, 2021, at the age of 61 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will strive to honor her memory by living their lives to the fullest. She was born on November 24, 1959 to Rebecca Garcia and Joe Avila. She leaves behind her daughter, Jessica Lopez; her son, Jason Lopez and wife Celestina; grandsons, Jay Jay Lopez and Willie Lopez; brothers Alfredo Garcia, wife Sonia and Joe Avila Jr., wife Carrie and numerous family and friends.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband Phillip Lopez, brother Roy Avila and In-laws Dan and Susie Medina.
Eleanor will be remembered as a selfless, altruistic wife and mother who always had a smile, even when times were tough. She had a quiet strength. She never complained and always looked to a better future.
Eleanor was ever calm. Her character and temperament can best be shown from the time she was diagnosed with cancer back in early 2020 until her passing into heaven. Eleanor had every right to cry, be mad or even fall into depression after her diagnosis, but instead she loved and lived every moment she was given, neither hard times nor cancer would rob her of who she was. She kept saying she was going to fight until the end, until she no longer could. Always graceful until God called her home.
Her family was the most important to her, especially Jay Jay and Willie. They were her everything. She loved family holiday gatherings, whether it was Christmas, Thanksgiving or someone's birthday. One of her favorite traditions was baking cookies, banana bread and making tamales during Christmas time. Making tamales was always a big task but she loved doing it. Another was camping Easter weekend with the whole family. A tradition that everyone always looked forward to year after year. She loved making the memories throughout the years.
Eleanor helped her husband run their family business, Four Seasons Shoe Repair Shop for many years and then later worked for Spring ISD and Klein ISD. Through these years working for Spring and Klein, she made many friends.
When you came into her home, everyone was family. She was always so welcoming.
