Elaine Sylvia Johnston was born June 7, 1940 in Tyler, Texas and went to eternal rest May 12, 2013 in Sugarland, Texas. When Elaine was an infant, her family moved to Houston, Texas where her father was employed by the government. She attended the public schools in Houston Independent School and graduated from Lamar High School in 1959. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Education from Sam Houston State. She taught a number of years at Lanier Middle School where she met her husband William Addison Tarver and they were married on 5 June, 1965, She continued to teach at Lanier until she started raising a family. Her son was born in November 1969,and her daughter May of 1975. She served as registrar of Bellaire High School for several years and finished her teaching as registrar of Sharpstown Senior High School. she retired after 22 years of service in the public schools. She loved to travel and Bill and she made several trips to view the leaves in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, and to experience the life in the Amish Country of Pennsylvania. They also visited many other parts of the United States: Elaine and Bill visited the following states; Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia,, North Carolina, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachuettes, Oklahoma,, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Utah, Wyoming , Utah, Colorado , and the following tourist places, Jamestowne, Yorktown, Gettysburg, Niagara Falls, Carlsbad Caverns, Longhorn Cavern in Texas, Denver Mint, United States Air Force Academy and many other places of interest, as well as touring Germany. Elaine was very good in math and was treasurer for the Kappa Delta Chapter in Sam Houston State. In her earlier years, she sewed most of her clothing. She was active in the Kappa Delta Alumni meetings for a number of years, There will be a visitation on Thursday May 16,2013 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home 12800 Westheimer Rd Houston,TX. The funeral will be held Friday May 17th at the Church of the Epiphany Episcopal at the corner 9600 S Gessner RD Houston,TX.
Elaine was a family person and was very proud of the accomplishments of her two children.
