Edward “Brother” Jenkins was born on May 5, 1926 to Viola Lefleure and Matthew Jenkins in St. Mary Parish Louisiana. Shortly after, Edward and his family moved to Beaumont, TX where he attended Martin High School. Beaumont, TX is where he met his wife, Erma Lee Jefferson; from this union, they had three children, Edward Jr, Lila and Carl.
Edward was a hard worker, often providing for not only his immediate family but for other family members as well. Family and friends could depend on him in their time of need.
Edward accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church for over 65 years. He served in various roles, including Choir President and Deacon. He enjoyed praising God through song, oftentimes with his beloved song, "Lord I Know You Been So Good" By E.Z. Patterson.
Edward proudly served in the U.S. Army. He had a very strong work ethic. He was employed by Entex Gas Company for 32 years until his retirement. He also had his own business, serving the 3rd Ward Community of Houston, TX. He was very dedicated and provided his time and service to his community. Upon his retirement he volunteered at his local Food Pantry for more than 20 years.
When it came to his children and grandchildren, Edward did above and beyond to ensure they had everything they needed. He believed in taking care of family and business. He always provided sound advice about family, life and finances. The wisdom he gave was priceless. He not only provided advice but was a living example, on how to be a God-fearing man, protector and provider for his family.
