John was born on September 23, 1926 in Stewards Mill, Texas. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He then married Nellie Velma Reed on September 27, 1947, and remained married until her death in 2009. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as a Cable Repair Technician in 1985 after serving over 35 years. After his retirement he began driving school buses for the Wimberley ISD for the following 10 years.
Dad’s greatest joys outside of his family were reading, golfing, hunting, gardening and working in his woodwork shop. He was a long-standing member and past Master (1967-1968) of S.P. Waltrip Lodge No. 1328 in Houston, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wimberley, Texas for many years until his move to New Braunfels, Texas where he joined the Eastside Baptist Church, and remained a member until his death.
John is preceded in death by his parents Edrel Luther Weaver and Janie Elmira Corbin Weaver, his wife of almost 62 years, Nellie Velma Reed Weaver, and sister Pauline Weaver Burchfield.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Debbie & Ronald Mitchamore of Arlington, Cathy & Kenneth Thompson of Kerrville, Pat & Brad Fulmer of Katy; and son and daughter-in-law Wayne & Loraine Weaver of Buda; 6 grandchildren: Timothy Thompson of Houston, Shannon & Ryan Witz of Houston, Heather & Dave Tucker of Houston, Michelle & Richie Clemens of Boerne, Lory & Matthew Hall of Kyle, and Gerald & Ashley Weaver of Tomball; 8 great-grandchildren: Tinley Stults, Avery Tucker, Bradley Tucker, Charlotte Witz, Madeline Witz, Nellie Witz, Carrie Hall and Sydney Clemens.
Pallbearers are Timothy Thompson, Gerald Weaver, Ryan Witz, Matthew Hall, Dave Tucker, Richie Clemens, with honorary pallbearers Glenn Rowe, Paul Burchfield and Randy Burchfield.
The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, December 19th from 6-8:00 p.m. Services will be held on Friday, December 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road, Houston, Texas 77055 with graveside immediately following at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas or Heart to Heart Hospice, Austin, Texas.
