Edna Marie Washington, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, family member, and friend, made a most peaceful and graceful ascent from this earthly journey on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 10:07am in Cypress, TX. She was born on Wednesday, March 21, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the historically rich Algiers neighborhood, to the late Thelma Sorrell Washington and the late Christopher Leonard Washington. Marie was baptized as a very young girl at First Free Mission Baptist Church and later became a member of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church. As Marie grew on her faith journey, her love for God and community was evident to everyone she encountered. Marie was a member of L.B. Landry High School’s Class of 1964. She was a high achieving student, a cheerleader, and Miss Landry, homecoming queen. She attended Southern University of Baton Rouge.
Preceding her in death beyond her parents were: her brother, Terrell Washington Sr.; and her son, Jermaine Christopher Washington. She leaves to forever cherish and uphold her honor: one brother, Harrison Gene Washington of Los Angeles, CA; her children: Marc (Sabrina), Courtney, Jarvis, and Michelle (Antonio) of Cypress, TX; eight grandchildren:Myles, Jaylen, Maya, Justice, Dylan, Dakota, Londyn, and Phoenix; her very special friends and family members who remained a daily staple; and an endless network of loved ones, family, and friends.
A private viewing was held on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Brookside Funeral Home in Cypress, Texas. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Celebration on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 10:00am at First Free Mission Baptist Church, 426 Lamarque St., New Orleans, LA 70114. Repast to follow.
