Eddie Mendez

Eddie Mendez, age 72, - loving husband, father, and “buelo”- passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home in Channelview, Texas. He went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Eddie was born to Juan and Maria Del Carmen Mendez on July 21, 1951 and was raised in San Antonio, Texas. As a young adult, he moved to Houston, Texas where he met the love of his life, Virginia Janet Mendez. Eddie and Janet married on August 23, 1975. They were married for 48 years and were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Erika Leigh Mendez-Davis, and Jenna Lee Mendez.

Eddie worked as a Master Electrician and proudly retired after 35 years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed living a healthy lifestyle by weight lifting at the gym and jogging daily around the neighborhood.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Avelino Jose Lujan; sisters, Perlita Lujan, Blanca Estella Garza; and brother, Avelino Jose Lujan III.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Virginia Janet Mendez; daughters, Erika Leigh Mendez-Davis (Adrian), Jenna Lee Mendez; grandchildren, Aston and A’brie Davis; sisters, Margaret Headen, Juanita Lujan; brothers, Juan Manuel Mendez, Gustavo Mendez, and many relatives, nieces, and nephews whom he loved dearly.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the many friends, family, caregivers, and nurses that helped care for him through difficulties and into the peaceful end.

Serving as pallbearers in Eddie’s honor will be John Palacios, Doug Garcia, David Garza, Adrian Davis, Patrick Pickett, Allen Burgos, Aston Davis

Visitation with the family will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home & Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St. Houston, Texas 77023 on Monday, September 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with service to begin at 12:00 PM.

Interment to follow immediately after funeral services at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
