I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
Eddie “Fay” Finney was born to the late Verna Iona and Eddie Rivers Adams on May 6, 1927 in Houston, Texas. When Fay graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1944, the family had moved to 8308 Airline Drive. She dreamed of being an artist and started working as a window dresser at Sears in downtown Houston. Fay met Harold Arthur Finney in grammar school. They married on March 17, 1947 and raised four children together. After 26 years of marriage, Harold went to be with our Lord in 1973. Fay was employed as a secretary starting in the late 1950’s and started a new career as a legal secretary in 1970. In the late 1970’s, she met and was employed by attorney, William V. Wade, where she worked for many years until her stroke in March of 2009, at the age of 81. As a devoted member of the Church of Christ, she attended North Houston, Garden Oaks, Burbank, and the 249 Church of Christ. Fay loved to spend her time with her family. She especially enjoyed holidays and birthdays where she always found “just the right gift” for her children and grandchildren. She was known for her home cooked meals: southern fried chicken, mashed potatoes, fried okra, potato salad, and cherry pie. Fay always welcomed, with open arms, many family members who needed a place to stay including cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. In the 1970’s, Mike Finney came to live with Harold and Fay, who became his legal guardians and gave him their last name. In 2009 Fay suffered a stroke and after many months of rehab went to live with James and Donna Finney for seven years. After her recent hospitalization in July, she spent her last days at the Woodlands Health Care Center. Fay passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Arthur Finney; sister, Dorris Iona Stricklin; and grandchild, Lawrence Harold Finney. She leaves to cherish her memory: her sister, Freda Elise Adams, along with four loving children: Carl Finney and wife, Gail; James Finney and wife, Donna; Carolyn Dobyanski and husband, Thomas; Leslie Finney and wife, Anharad; and Mike Finney. Also, she is survived by 11 grandchildren: Alan Finney, Melissa Johnson, Joanna Chafin, Angela Finney, Michael J. Finney, Cynthia Finney, Robbie Dobyanski, Clint Dobyanski, Jessica Strawn, Austin Finney, and Hannah Finney; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild expected soon; and Joyce Anderson, a devoted friend who has remained by her side for many years. She also is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Reception to follow funeral services on Saturday at Carl and Gail Finney’s home.
