On January 15, 1948 God blessed Blanchard [deceased] and Ida Davis with a bouncing baby boy. Holding their new found joy in their arms, they felt in their hearts he would be a strong soldier, and as they gazed into his beautiful little chocolate face, they chose the name Earl {which means nobleman; warrior}. Earl attended the LaMarque Independent School District where he graduated in 1967 from LaMarque High School. Earl was an excellent student in his academics, enjoyed reading books [checking out as many as 6 books with each library visit] and loved writing poetry. Playing basketball was his passion. He played on the school's basketball team until he injured his knee and was no longer able to play. He furthered his education by attending College Of The Mainland Junior College and University of Houston. Earl was always an even tempered, obedient compassionate child and did all he could to help his mom with his younger sisters and brothers. He would make sure they did their homework and insisted they do their share of the household chores. At an early age, he would stand on milk carton boxes preparing meals for the family. By the time he was a teen, he had become a master in the kitchen. Mother Ida was a devout Christian and made sure her children were in God's house every opportunity possible. Earl accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age and was raised in the fear of the Lord. In the Fall of 1969, while standing in the halls of College of the Mainland Junior College, Earl's eyes gazed upon the one whom he immediately knew would be his soul mate. He pursued the young lady and on September 2, 1972 Earl and Eva Colvin joined in holy matrimony. To this union was born one child, Elicia Noel, fondly called Chocolate Chip. Earl had such a love for his family that if you were in his presence more than five minutes you would certainly hear how much they meant to him. The bond between the three was unbreakable and only became stronger and stronger with each passing year. In March 2011, Earl began a new turn in his journey. With his wife and daughter faithfully along his side, he endured a year fighting the battle of cancer. He was a strong soldier in the battle, holding to his faith, keeping his sense of humor and encouraging others. God crossed him over on April 15th and he is now resting in the bosom of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his father, Blanchard Davis. He leaves to honor and cherish his memories, his devoted wife Eva; beloved daughter Elicia Mackey (Larron); two adorable grandchildren Angel Michelle and Jordan Earl, his mother, Ida Davis {Petersburg, Virginia} five brothers: Aaron Davis, Merced, CA; Arthur Davis, Las Vegas; Tyrone Davis{Mary}, Las Vegas; Benjamin Davis, Petersburg, Virginia; and Leonard Davis, Las Vegas; three sisters: Diane Enchill, Merced, CA; Elvis Marie, Merced, CA; and Teresa Daniels(Thomas) Petersburg, Virginia; five God-children: DeAsia Jackson, Ebony Guyton, Chase Kyle, Bryce Parker and Madison Parker, and a host of nieces and nephews. We know little of what is on the other side of death, But we do know one thing... we know our Master is there and that is enough.
