He moved to Houston in 2002 and began to make his home there. Dylan attended Manvel high school and San Jacinto Community College but never found a connection with academics because of his emotional pain and distraction from losing his father at an early age. Dylan grew up to love tennis, but he later found solace and comfort in practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Dylan also developed a love for dancing, music, and playing the guitar. He possessed a quick wit, depth in his thinking process, a sharp sense of humor, and keen perspicacity in many life issues. Dylan was an accomplished tennis player, having competed in USTA tournaments and achieved the level of boys’ Champ 12 and Super Champ 12. Dylan was working full-time at Amazon at the time of his death and was loved by many co-workers and teammates at his Jiu Jitsu studio in Pearland.
Dylan is preceded in death by his father, Reed Darnold McAlister; his maternal grandmother, Vanna Nguyen; and his paternal grandfather, Reed McAlister.
He is survived by his mother, Gwen McAlister; stepfather, Tom Smith; brother, Brandon McAlister; paternal grandmother, Pat McAlister; uncle, Tal; and aunt, Jill McAlister; aunt, Jeni and uncle Gene McAlister; aunt, Sheri and uncle Rocky Rhoades; uncle, Chi and aunt, Dung Nguyen, and his numerous cousins on both his mother’s and father’s side. We are all feeling the deepest void and pain from losing Dylan and praying God to ease and heal our pain going forward.
