Our community sadly lost a pillar on Tuesday, the 30th of May 2023, when Dr. Edward M. Piña, age 61, favorably known as “Ed” passed away from natural causes in the loving arms of his fiancée, at Los Cabos, San Lucas, Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Alcides B. Piña and his brother, Anthony C. Piña. He is survived by his daughter, Alci-Lou Piña Walker and her husband Jacob Walker; his sons, Edward Joseph and Diego Manuel Piña; his loving mother, Carlota Piña; his fiancée, Ysis Luna; his fiancée’s daughter, Emma Luna; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles; and his loving friends of Houston and all over the World.
He was a loving son, husband to be, father, grandfather to be, uncle, colleague, friend, doctor, a philanthropist and so much more. Dr. Edward M. Piña was a Double Board Certified Surgeon, Certified by the American Board of General Surgery and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. He attended Texas Tech University and received his B.S. in Biology in 1985. He then went on to the University of Texas Medical School in Houston where he received his M.D. degree in 1989. He went to residency at the prestigious Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City where he trained in General Surgery and received the distinguished Leon Ginsberg Award for outstanding Chief Resident. He then returned to Houston and has gained experience for the past 28 years in General Surgery, advanced Laparoscopic, Bariatric surgery, and he kept up with the latest technologies and techniques in modern medicine as well as DaVinci Robotic Surgery.
One of his greatest achievements was becoming a Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon in 2008, AACS fellowship in Cosmetic Surgery under the tutelage of Dr. Jim English in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he performed over 800 cosmetic procedures in his training year alone. He was a member of numerous medical and surgical professional associations and served as a proctor for other surgeons.
Dedicated to his patients, Dr. Edward M. Piña not only served Houston’s (Hispanic/Latin) community over the past years, but had also served our National and International community performing on his 34-years of Carrera thousands of Cosmetic and General Surgeries Procedures on a diversity of patients that have been able to achieve their realistic surgical expectations.
Dr. Edward M. Piña provided personalized care and believed that each patient is as unique as their aesthetic plan. Dr. Piña took the time to sit with each patient during the consultation appointment, getting to know their needs, wishes, goals, and expectations, providing a time to align realistic outcomes.
He was such a loving and hard-working man. He will never be forgotten and his legacy will continue for many, many years to come. Thank you for your many years of practice.
