On April 14, 1934, Dorothy "Doris" Mae Middleton was born to Pearl Leslie and Millie Anna Middleton in Columbus, Texas. Dorothy attended schools in Colorado County and Bay City, Texas where she participated in many activities such as basketball, volleyball, and track. On August 22, 1952 she was joined in matrimony with Herman Woods and to their union, five children were born; Herman Jr., Sandra, Auddie, Darlene, and Vickie. They made their home in Houston, TX. in the Carverdale community. As Dorothy accepted Jesus as her personal savior at an early age, She became a member of Greater Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor, Blair and served in the church as an usher and a member of the choir until her health prevented her to so. Always a lover of beauty and style, in 1962, Dorothy obtained her cosmetology license and pursued her dream as a beautician. She worked and also served her community as a hairstylist for many years. Dorothy also had a passion for nature, some of her most favorite pastimes were farming, fishing, and gardening. She always remarked that she would rather have her "flowers" on this side of heaven! Many days she could be found tending to her garden or her roses. Dorothy departed this earth for her Heavenly Home on July 25, 2018. Awaiting her arrival in heaven are her Parents, Pearl Sr. and Millie Middleton, brothers, Pearl Jr., Wilbert, Robert, and Fred Middleton; sister, Bessie Hargest; and granddaughter, Sterling D. Craig. She leaves to celebrate her legacy, Herman Woods Sr.; Sons Herman Jr. (Gloria), and Auddie Woods (Mary); daughters Sandra Fance (Kenneth), Darlene Semien, and Vickie Bosley; brother, Elvin Middleton; sisters, Johnnie Norwood, and Carrie Junious; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces and beloved family members and friends.
I thank god for my mom. She loved and cared for her family. She was a provider, a care taker and a teacher. She taught us about life. She taught us the ups and downs. But most of all she always said god will make a way. You are truly missed. My heart aches everyday. I love you and miss you.
